As tears stream down the face of the fifteen-year-old and with determination in her voice the sexually abused gymnast confronts her tormentor, Dr. Larry Nassar.
As I watch the full video of several of these girls and young women, I can’t stop thinking where were the “powers that be’ to protect these young people crying out for justice?
In today’s Orlando Business Journal reports
“USA Gymnastics plans to leave Texas after dealing with heavy scrutiny regarding the scandal of abuse of several girls and women by team physician Dr. Larry Nassar. As a result, the sport’s governing body said the team will move from the Karolyi Ranch training center, where much of the abuse reportedly happened”
Further down in the article they report.
“Nobody can go without looking at their TVs to see what’s going on with USA Gymnastics,” Andy Odenbach, vice president of Tavistock Sports Venture, said during Orlando Business Journal’s Jan. 19 Business of Sports event. “So when people ask me what’s next, I say we’d love to bring USA Gymnastics here.”
The rest of the article goes on to promote the economic boom that having the USA Gymnastics facility would be to Central Florida. Last quote:
“USA Gymnastics would bring a whole new group to Lake Nona, one of Florida’s fastest-growing communities.”
The association of USA Gymnastics and Larry Nassar in my mind screams pedophile, untrustworthy.
Is this what we want to invite into our community? Let’s welcome, with open arms, a company whose culture is look the other way, sweep it under the carpet.
While we are at it let’s see if Harvey Weinstein wants to move into your neighborhood. Husbands and boyfriends watch out for the women in your life. Harvey may want to produce a community play and auditions are next week.
Can you say fox in the hen house?
For the sake of the almighty dollar our so-called “community leaders” are also willing to look the other way. They are willing to risk the safety of our beautiful Orlando youth to draw more people and investment into Orlando.
I ask what type of people do we want to invite? Sleazeballs like Larry Nassar? An organization that puts their profits and growth before the safety and well being of children?
I say no! Hell no!
When USA Gymnastics can prove without a shadow of a doubt that they have purged their collective system. Orlando should say thanks but no thanks.
